Yesterday I treated myself to creating another dala inspired by my favorite potted plant, Purple Oxalis. My daughter had requested I keep in mind that I’ve been transforming my dala art into leggings and that the white background around the circular dala does not always work well when it lands on the wrong body parts. Rather than add a border after creating the dala, I opted to create the border simultaneously.
The day before, I had been too hasty in making revisions on the Cleome Dala and it ended up in the trash. When I had the urge to darken the value of a two small shapes in the Purple Oxalis Dala, I decided to sleep on it. This morning, with fresh eyes, I knew I needed to darken more than just the two small shapes. For me, the darker value of the small green shapes creates more motion in the design. This one did not end up in the trash, instead, it became a pair of leggings.
Night: Before I darkened the value of a few shapes: (the hue differences between the two versions is due to the fact that the first version was photographed in my studio at night and the second was photographed in the morning when the light of the sun made the hues warmer.)
Morning : Changes in the value of a few small shapes.
What do you think?
