Complementary Colors and color value.
As I work my way through the 100 sketches of trumpet parts that I have promised myself to complete I will post more detailed lessons in color value studies and examples of color value. When I play with complementary colors as I am in this sketch, purple / yellow and blue / orange, I find the results more satisfying than any combinations of red /green. The reason is that I like strong contrast of values. Most reds and greens, full strength, fall too close to one another on the value chart. I will post examples soon.
Sketch: Drawn first with a Flex Roller Tip Pen filled with Black Swan in English Rose Noodler’s Ink, followed by washes of watercolor.
