The Color Scheme Game
The description below is long overdue to be updated. The workshop has evolved significantly over the last three years. Due to recent interest (as of June 2015) I will update this page shortly, hopefully before my next newsletter goes out on August 1st. The game templates are no longer available as a mailed kit with laminated templates. It was far too time consuming for me to make them and I needed more time to paint. The templates and are available as a pdf file for you to print, laminate (I recommend you do so though it isn’t necessary) and cut out. the pdf also includes rules for The Color Scheme Game as well as rules for Extended versions of the game to explore composition, values and lighting situations. Link to purchase the PDF. These are also fairly to easy to make on your own. I’m pretty sure that most of you have color wheels in your studio that you don’t have much use for. Playing this game may inspire you to actually use your color wheel.
Link to directions for playing the game. (This will lead you to my Creative Color Blog that I no longer post on, but it still has a great deal of useful information that you may access there.)
Examples of different color schemes are posted on a regular basis in Flickr Albums, there is a separate albums for each of the twelve color schemes. Scroll down the Flickr page until you find the color scheme album you are interested in viewing.
Color Scheme Game, Color Value and Extended Game Workshops may be scheduled as either one day or multiple day workshops.
Goal: To introduce simple methods for sharpening skills in drawing, painting and mixing colors using minimal materials and everyday objects. Skills are taught by playing variations of The Color Scheme Game. Line, value, color and composition are all part of the game. Working in sketchbooks is encouraged as a daily activity. A sketchbook with pen, waterbrush and paint can be taken anywhere without mess or fuss. The more you draw and paint, the more fun you have and the better artist you become. Demonstrations will be done throughout the workshop showing a variety of techniques and styles. Students of all levels may participate and will be challenged at the level of their abilities.
