My trip to Provence began with a five night stay at Vertigo Hostel in Marseille, France. It ended with a two nights stay at the same hostel. The two weeks between were spent with a wonderful group of artists attending Susan Abbott’s painting workshop in Les Bassacs. The workshop exceeded my expectations in every way. Over the next few months I will continue posting images and stories from this fabulous trip of artistic growth, personal unveiling and the energy created by a supportive group of hard working people with a great sense of humor. My Provence Posts begin with drawings from my pocket-size sketchbook. My suitcase is still in transit with my paintings and the rest of my sketchbooks.
To begin at the end, I sat in the lobby of the hostel, plugged into the internet for hours as my photos from the last few days in Les Bassacs uploaded to Dropbox. Marseille was all abuzz. Cafe’s were filled to maximum capacity with everyone staring in one direction toward the wide screen monitors hung outside for customers to watch the World Cup. The lobby of Vertigo B also filled with sports fans.
The lobby of Vertigo B was far more comfortable than across the courtyard in Vertigo A where I began my journey. The only view that inspired me in Vertigo A was the collection of clocks that, had they been working, would indicate the time in different parts of the world.
