Finally finished painting Gabe’s Closet Dala that I drew while staying in Gabe’s room in Columbia, MD last month. I wanted to play with neutrals while maintaining the design elements of the Dala as well as keeping my neutrals rich in color and strong in value.
Gabe’s Closet – Columbia, Maryland
Ink and Watercolor
One of the reasons I love painting these dalas on Rives BFK paper is that I can lay multiple washes over areas when I need to alter the value and/or the hue. To keep the design strong in this dala I had to continue to overlay washes to darken the values in several areas. I’ll be mailing this off to my fabulous hosts, Heather and Michael, tomorrow morning.
I LOVE the colors, Chris! Intense but neutral, how did you do it? What fun!
Peggy, are you asking how I drew it or how I painted it?
