My focus in this color doodle was to contrast curved shapes with linear shapes and warm colors against cool colors to create movement and depth.
The color didn’t end up as bright as I would have liked. I found that I wanted some of the shaped that I had squiggled with my fountain pen needed to be a pure color rather than brown ink. That led to somewhat interesting dark colors, but subdued. This was too much fun for me to be objective about it as a painting.
I began with my fountain pen, drawing and squiggling at bit, and followed with watercolor washes. The pattern of light and dark values is vital, as always, in this little experiment or creating space abstractly.
