Happy New Year!
As much as I am enjoying the stylus and iPad as a new sketching tool, I love my pen and brush so much more. I love the drag of the nib across the paper, the irregular bleed of the ink into the rich watercolor that seeps into the sketchbook paper, mixing with other pigments and spreading through the drops of added water. I don’t need a battery inside of a stylus for the tool in my hand to be pressure sensitive, to respond to my movement like a blow across violin strings. How could I help but begin the new year with a sketchbook drawing of my purple Oxalis as it reaches for the sunlight from the pot beside my drafting table?
Sketchbook Drawing: Oxalis – drawn first in ink withPilot retractable fountain pen followed by watercolor.
