Create a Pentagram Mandala

Every minute of any of Chris’ classes is moment invested with great results. The essence of years old mastery presented on increasing level with every class. If you feel need to test yourself for a sleeping artist within, take one class and you will know right away- it is like litmus paper- revealing all your unknown (or known but not tested) curiosity for a world behind color- seen, processed and reflected as a picture in mind and on paper.

Color Mixing 101 – Kickstart to Mastering Color Theory

This is the first class of series of fundamental classes to navigate painlessly in the magic of watercolor. Great and indispensable!

   Vesta Dobreva

I learned things about mixing colors that I had never heard or understood. Love the process of working with warm and cool colors… light bulbs came on : ) I’ve created a blank warm cool color wheel to place my pans on and will try this out with numerous color combinations. This was a unique idea and yet so simple to follow.

Color Wheel Mandala Part IV – Kaleidoscope

She’s a talented teacher! I really like her approach a lot. intense work if you want it to be, but also can be just fun.

   Sara Tarr

If you are a beginner in the world of art, when you complete this level- part four of Chris’ mandala classes, you will be equipped for your adventure to this world. You will understand better if your passion is strong enough to continue or the challenge is too big. I think also for artists Chris’ classes give priceless knowledge collected drop by drop and organized in effective system. It is not a formula but like unsuspected secret muscle in the eye, which when developed changes the sight forever.

Another stellar color mandala class from Chris. It is way more challenging for me with more complicated designs and six primaries to work with but I am learning an enormous amount about color. It also isn’t just about color mixing, it is a great way to explore my own mandala designs and practice painting small areas. I highly recommend the class.

Quickie Color Wheels with a Limited Palette

This is a class where people with experience in art can learn how quickly to evaluate and check the color mixes of their chosen palette. For me, as a beginner, this class is eye-opening how I can learn about pigments before trying to use them without any sense. It is incredible shortcut saving me a lot of time, materials and disappointments , and giving me a chance to study, compare and match them without having long years of practice. Every Chris’ class is like stepping on a higher level and connecting to another frequency of sensing, understanding and being capable of. Thank you!!!

Awesome class! Thank you so much

Wheel Mandala Part II – Flower Petal Mandala

This class is a series of color wheel mandalas…this is the second one and I am loving it. I am finding a new level of understanding about color and having fun making mandalas at the same time. It is also giving me an opportunity to up other skills, like what brush works best and how my paper choice affects the outcome. Highly recommend.

   Carol S

Perfect to understand your colors, are they cold or warm and what’s their behavior when mixing… Thank you so much Chris, I learned a lot!

    Uwe

Before this class my world of color was flat, like only two-dimensional- take paint, dilute with water, sometimes mix with another and paint. I have only read about Munsell Color system where the dimensions are three- Chroma and Hue being a base and vertical up and down Value, where 10 is white and 0- black. Once you learn the special system developed by Chris- coloring mandalas in a certain order-you will suddenly start seeing with your eyes what is happening- how pigments behave and their properties, how important is the ratio between them and how subjective is the judgment choosing this ratio. The color is not flat anymore for me- it can be controlled and directed with purpose. The teacher is a Master of color and after her series of lessons your eyes will see the world from different angle-more theoretical but in a good way- to have control you need to understand what you are doing. Thousand thanks to Chris!

Color Wheel Mandala Part I – Star Mandala

If you just need to learn the theory of color this class is for you because is fun and educational. If you want to study the color as deep as the psychology behind their relations this class is for you because of the teacher. Chris will help you at exact level you choose for yourself from light and theoretical to deep and fundamental. You still need to go through it yourself but you will have a map and her presence- she follows your progress closely and gives her best to all her students, without exception. Her classes opened my eyes and changed my thinking- everything I liked as a harmony on subconscious level now comes with answers why and how. Thousand thanks to this teacher!

This is a great class to learn about colors in a very fun way! The mandalas are easy to make, gorgeous, and addictive too! Can’t wait for Part II!

I just finished my first mandala color wheel. It was really great fun and I am looking forward to changing the colors I use and doing the next one for the this class. Chris’ clarity and knowledge about colors really shines in this video. Chris is a wonderful teacher: very responsive in looking at my projects and giving me great feedback. She also has been generous in answering my questions about related topics. Highly recommend this course as well as the other ones that Chris has posted.

Series of 100 Sketches and Paintings

An excellent class by an experienced sketcher and watercolour artist who definitely knows what she’s talking about!! You’ve got me thinking about a few unfinished sketchbooks of my own Chris! I was thinking how well this idea would work for my box stash, it would be great to know my subject each time and just get right into sketching!!

DIY Body Easel

I am somewhat of an “art-hacker,” always looking for ways to make or repurpose items to better sketch and paint with. This hit me in my “sweet spot.” I’ve just shared it with my DFW Urban Sketcher group.

    Herb Reed

Chris has offered very unique and useful ways to manage art supplies while on the go. Every sketcher I know is always trying to find solutions to keep everything easily accessible while in use, without adding bulky, or heavy equipment to our packs…great ideas, Chris!!

Pulling the Puddle – Master an essential watercolor technique

As always Chris ‘ classes leave you with better understanding of the matter discussed. The wash in watercolor painting is very fundamental skill and “pulling the paddle ” is another solid base you need to build in the very beginning to watercolor. Chris’ method helps you quickly understand and master the skill. The class is based on making a small project- a sweet piece of art that will always remind you of your beginning. Thousand thanks to Chris!

   Vesta Dobreva

This was a great class. I highly recommend it for learning watercolor technique. I already see a huge improvement in my work. Thanks.

     Paula Kehoe

That was a revelation. I’ve been struggling with making even washes ever since I started painting a couple of years ago. My first attempt was quite uneven but I see why. Will practice. Thank you!!

     Jane Schonveld

This is a perfect class and just what I need to get started!

     Pauli Quann

I’ve been painting for several years on my own and this is the first time I’ve truly understood this principle. I can’t wait to give it a try. Many thanks for clearly showing this technique.

     Nancy Gray

I love how Chris makes painting using watercolour so accessible. With her relaxed and warm teaching style, you won’t judge yourself as you follow her instructions. Thanks for this, I can’t wait to make more cool stuff!”

Chris has a wonderful teaching style and her years of experience show from the second she starts. I am not formally trained in watercolors, but use them daily, I really feel I learnt some incredibly useful techniques from this one class. I had never heard the term “pulling the puddle” before, so I often have marks left by my watercolor washes (a look I like too) but it will be fun to try this effect for a more even backdrop. Excited to try. Great informative class and I recommend it 🙂

     Sarah Jean Bryson

What an excellent class! Of all the watercolor classes I’ve watched here on Skillshare, not one of them really explained this technique for flawless washes. Thank you for your willingness to share all your years of experience with us!

Watercolor Travel Kit: Fits in Your Pocket published 021820

I ADORE the two small sketchbooks Chris makes in this class, I’ll definitely be trying those! They will make inconspicuous painting much easier. I have made a few small travel palettes before, but I like the way you created two mixing wells in yours, something else I will be very happy to try. I very much enjoyed watching you use your travel kits (even if I did get a little car sick, lol)! Also, loving that clip!! Thanks for the inspiration Chris!

Mixing Gorgeous Greens using only Black, Gray and Yellow

Hello Chris, thank you for this exciting and powerful class! It was a big pleasure to learn about the greens. I am using the colors by White Nights and my Payne´s grey didnt show some blue… so i wasn’t able to paint your super nice picture ” Les Bassacs” 🙁 Thank you very much, Uwe

     Uwe  Hinz

I have learned more from Chris Carter’s classes and my efforts in watercolor have improved as a result of her simple and clear instructions. I am looking forward to more of her classes and will continue experimenting with what I’ve learned so far. Many thanks!

     Nancy Gray

Excellent course. Clear instructions and demonstrations. Well-paced. Motivating. Realistic. I will certainly take more courses with Chris Carter, who is a knowledgeable and inspirational teacher
