Materials List: Color Mixing – Color Schemes and Watercolor Techniques

Material List:
Six tubes of watercolor pigment, one each of the following: cool yellow, warm yellow, cool blue, warm blue, cool red, warm red. At the end of this list I have provided a guide to the warm and cool pigment choices.
Watercolor brushes – I suggest a round #10, a round #6 as well as a large flat and/or hake brush.
Various Watercolor papers, hot press (smooth) and cold press (not smooth) as well as scrap paper. I suggest quality paper, not student grade. Five to ten full sheets (22” x 30”) watercolor paper are recommended.
Three large water containers.
Watercolor Palette – In addition to your regular palette please bring a round, mixing palette with at least ten mixing wells.
Paper Towels, Scissors, Pencil, Permanent Fine Tip marker such as Sharpie or Micron, Compass with Pencil (Does not need to be high quality), Straight Edge (may be a strip cut from sheet of watercolor paper).
Suggested additional supplies: ….. eyedropper, old toothbrush, miscellaneous watercolor brushes if you have them, dip pen and bottle of ink, spray misting bottle, hair dryer, saran wrap, old lace or doilies that you don’t mind ruining, assorted netting (i.e. onion bags). Several small, empty vitamin or prescription bottles with caps.
Mouth atomizer if you have one. I will give each student a mouth atomizer to keep.
Suggested Cool and Warm Pigments:
Cool Yellows: Cadmium Lemon, Hansa Yellows, Bismuth Yellow, Lemon Yellows, Nickel Titanate, Aureolin
Warm Yellows: Cadmium Yellows, Hansa Yellow Deep, Gamboge, Nickel Dioxine, Yellow Ochre
Cool Blues: Cobalt Teal, Cobalt Turquoise, Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Blue, Manganese Blue, Joe’s Blue
Warm Blues: Ultramarine Blue, Indanthrone Blue
Cool Reds: Magenta, Alizarin Crimson, Quinacridone Carmine, Quinacridone Rose, Quinacridone Crimson
Warm Reds: Cadmium Reds, Vermillion, Pyrrole Red, Cadmium Scarlet, Pyrrole Scarlet
