Another challenge …. Squiggling Mandalas
Spurred on by Carolyn, one of my Salisbury students, I drew my first ink squiggle mandala. It got off to a pretty bad start and hiccoughed its way through three fountain pens running out of ink. As you know, I am pretty determined to find solutions when I tackle a drawing of any kind. This was no exception.
The mandala is 5.75″ diameter. It took a total of about four hours to complete. I would have liked for the points of the hexagram star to have extended to the edges of the circle to create an illusion of space between the star layer and the folded circle behind it. I will try another one soon, perhaps a more intricate pattern.
Drawn lightly in pencil before squiggling with a fine nib fountain pen.
This would make a fantastic exercise for a creative drawing class. Neat study on value in ink! …and you know how much I like your squiggle drawings, Chris!
