Along with a dozen roses, Tom gave me a box of Godiva Chocolate Gems.
I shifted the standard primary colors of fire engine red, banana yellow and marching band blue to cyan, magenta and marigold yellow. I’ll have to try this again until I can achieve an illusion of the metallic wrapping. I find it difficult to achieve the highlights in the magenta without dulling it by adding white. It worked a bit better when I added a touch of yellow to the mix. The surrounding values must be darker in order for the reflected light areas to appear bright enough.
Holding myself to fifteen to twenty minute 5″ x 5″ sketches keeps me on my toes. I am learning more by doing three short studies than I would from fussing with one study for forty-five minutes.
