More tests with the Lytro – light field camera for illustrating the importance of using sharp edges in appropriate places in a drawing/painting. Click on each glass and watch the focus change. The edges will become sharper on the glass you have just clicked on. If this were a painting, where would the viewer look?
This afternoon I will be judging an exhibit of work by senior citizens in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. As you know by now, judging work is one of my least favorite activities. I want to award almost every artist for putting brush to canvas. It was while judging an exhibit a few years ago that I realized just how important it is to clarify one’s focal point. So many artists do not take advantage of sharp edges in and near the focal point(s) and blurred, softer edges everywhere else. This is often the result of painting from photographs where just about everything is in sharp focus.
