Being disciplined for myself is one thing; being disciplined for others is a horse of a different color. I draw and/or paint every day and have done so for years. I didn’t think that posting one or more of my daily sketches on the Facebook Daily Sketchers page would change anything in my life except for the time it takes to post it. I was wrong.
There have been nights I’ve gone to bed having forgotten to post a sketch I did earlier in the day. Just as I was about to drift into dreamland, I would remember. Of course I didn’t want to get out of bed, find my phone and post to Facebook, but I did. The point of Daily Sketchers is to inspire artist to draw more and to sketch even when not inspired to do so. If I don’t demonstrate drawing daily, I’m not the living example I’ve committed to being. If a leader doesn’t follow through on a commitment to herself, those that could benefit by following may also decide it’s really not that important to follow through with their own commitment.
There will always be exceptions, days that I am unable to post due to being out of internet range. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t drawn that day. It means I’m falling asleep under the stars on top of a mountain.
This experience has influenced other aspects of my life, too, in a very positive way.
